Now that it's gray and cold outside, I thought I'd post a wedding that we shot when the sun was shining and there were still leaves on the trees.(can't we just fast-forward to Spring already!?)

Susannah and TJ got married at the most amazing property I've ever had the privilege to be on. The estate has been in TJ's family for quite some time and the house had so many antiques, it would make a museum blush with envy. It was a truly spectacular setting for a wedding. Pretty people, beautiful weather, and an amazing house provided for unlimited photo potential. This was a good one!

Hello blog world! I've finally dug myself out from under the mountain of "images to be edited" in my studio. I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. Oh wait, that's just the light from the oncoming train of 2012 weddings! Ah, well it was good while it lasted.

So, this is Lauren and James. Two sweethearts that we shot an epic engagement session for a little while back. We started in downtown Kansas City and worked our way over to the new Kit Bond Bridge(I know, Kansas Citians refuse to call it anything but the Paseo Bridge!) James helped to build the bridge, so they wanted to get some shots of it and by the time we got down there, the light was all nice and warm. I'm really happy with this session. Have a look!

Austin and Jennie

You may remember Austin and Jennie from a post I made, way back when. That post was about their engagement session and now I'm posting about their wedding!

This was my first time to shoot a wedding at the Drexel Hall in Kansas City. It's a cool old building with awesome hardwood floors, huge windows, and a wrap around balcony. Talk about a sweet spot for a wedding and reception! This was one smooth wedding. Austin and Jennie were really patient, dang cute, and just downright hospitable. Once again, making my job as easy as it can be. Happy, colorful photos were achieved! See for yourself...

Amanda and Daniel

This is Amanda and Daniel. They live in D.C. Amanda wanted to have her wedding in her parent's over-the-top, beautiful backyard in Topeka, KS, so that's what they did!

It was a bright and sunny day, it was a beautiful setting, there were lovely people all around, a fantastic jazz band playing, and delicious cupcakes(Jenna and I both took samples). Add all of that up and you get one special wedding. Almost makes my job easy...

I love when a couple decides to see each other before the ceremony. I usually get some great expressions from these shots and then the day just seems to unfold a little easier. Here's the series of shots from Amanda and Daniel's "first look".

Kyle and David

People have asked me if I have a favorite wedding, out of all of the weddings that I've shot. I've worked at a ton of really great weddings so it's hard for me to pick just one, but if I had to, I think this would be it.

Kyle and David are two of the nicest, sweetest people that I've worked with. I really liked them from the minute we met. Their wedding took place on top of the Oread Hotel, here in lovely Lawrence, KS and the views from up there are out of this world. It truly is an amazing location for a wedding ceremony!(I secretly want to divorce Jenna and then immediately remarry her on top of the Oread!)

The day was just outstanding all around and I can't say enough about this couple. When I work with people this nice and generous it makes it soooo much easier to shoot great images. Anyhoo, let's get to the photos!

Ally and Craig

Gee whiz, it's been a long time since my last post! We just finished shooting six weddings in six weekends(new record for us!) and finally have one weekend off. So, I thought I'd take a little break from editing to get a blog post done.

We shot Ally and Craig's wedding a little while back, and it sure was a humdinger. This wedding day had it all, perfect blue skies, Kansas City skyline, trolley rides, Union Station, West Bottoms reception, graffiti walls, sweet dancing, and loads of pretty people. Could not have asked for more. Ally and Craig were a ton of fun and I think you can see that in their images. I'm really happy with the photos from this one. Have a look!

Austin and Jennie

Spring is on it's way to being sprung! Like a bear with a camera, I came out of my winter cave(studio) last weekend to shoot this engagement session with Austin and Jennie. Jennie met us at the bridal show last month and we knew right away that we wanted to shoot her wedding. For the engagement session, we met them at the Nelson Atkins Museum on a cold, cloudy, sort of wet day. Despite the dreary forecast, we got some great images. Then we packed up and went to Union Station where we lit them up like movie stars. These were some of my favorite shots of the day. They were a super sweet couple (how do I always get the nicest people to work with?) and we're super pumped up to shoot their big day. Anyways, here's some images!

New coffee table books and bridal shows....

Couple of things to report on today.

First off, we're now offering these super cool coffee table styled books. They're 12"x12"(that's huge!), hardback, premium paper, and down right slick. For those of you who want a more modern styled wedding album, these are the real deal.

Secondly, we'll be at the Perfect Wedding Guide Bridal Show at the Overland Park Convention Center, this Sunday, the 13th. Come by our booth and say hi! You can check out these new books! Also, we'll be giving away free engagement sessions, so stop by and ask us about that. The show costs $12 and I just happen to have 5 free tickets. 2010 - Year in review...a little late, I know.

I know that it's already the 12th of January, but I thought I'd make a post, looking back on our 2010 wedding season. Be sure to make it to the end of the post to see the New Year Special.

It used to be that there really was a "wedding season", usually from April to October. In 2010, we had weddings from January to December. It was our busiest wedding year yet. We shot 17 weddings that ranged from tiny to GIANT. We shot weddings in Kansas City, Topeka, Lawrence, Overland Park, Kearney, and even a little town named Sabetha. A little more than half of our weddings were shot here in Lawrence, Ks. Where was the most popular location for these Lawrence weddings you ask? The Danforth Chapel, on the KU campus. We shot more weddings at the Danforth this year than anywhere else. We can shoot weddings in that chapel with our eyes closed! It's a great little chapel and we love to do weddings there. Here's my little 2010 wedding awards list...

Best views for wedding ceremony - Hands down, the top of the Oread Hotel in Lawrence, KS has the
best views around. You can see for miles up there! Check it out!

Neatest reception space - The Hobb's building in Kansas City's west bottoms. It's hard to get to, but
                                         worth the effort. It's a really cool old building that makes for a fantastic
                                          place to have a reception. Photo below...

Best Lawrence reception space - This is a tie between the Eldridge Hotel(first photo) and the
Alton Ballroom at Pachamama's restaurant(2nd photo).

This is a sweet little wedding we shot here in Lawrence back in the fall. Mimi and Jamie were kind enough to let us document their big day and it turned out to be a pretty perfect day at that. A new blog post for cryin' out loud!

I am seriously behind on my wedding blog! Between shooting weddings and doing the finish work on my new studio, I have really neglected this blog. I'm so ashamed!

Since my last posting, we completed the construction of my new studio space. Here's a photo to prove it! I can't wait to get all moved in and up and running...

Now to my second bit o' news. I'm making the announcement on here first, that I will be raising my wedding rates come January 1st. So, if you've been on the fence about whether or not to hire me for your wedding, now would be the time to do it. Don't say I didn't warn you!

On to some images. Here's a little engagement session that I shot a while back. Karla and Jacob have me booked to shoot their wedding next year, and wanted some Fall engagement shots. It was a beautiful day, we found some colorful trees, and I even got to meet their super sweet German Shorthair, named Blue.(I love German Shorthairs by the way. I have one and her name is Millie. She's the best dog ever.) Anyways, I think the session was a hit, take a look...

August has been my break from weddings this year. I sure am glad I didn't have to be out shooting in that crazy hot weather! Wedding's pick back up with a vengeance in September and October, so I've been using this down time to catch up on all of my personal work, house work, ect.

It has also been nice to have some down time while construction started on my brand NEW STUDIO! It's hard for me to believe that I've been without a working studio for almost two years. Moving from Missouri, I had to leave behind my studio and have been without one ever since, but I will not be without one for long. Six weeks from now, I should be up and running in my very own space! We designed it ourselves and the construction team broke ground on the project yesterday. Oh happy days!

Now, here's a wedding that we shot a while back. It was one of the most fun weddings we've experienced. Wesley is from South Africa and Ashley is from Kansas. They sang the South African national anthem at the reception for cryin' out loud! It was pretty neat. Their wedding was in a beautiful church in Topeka and the reception was here in Lawrence at the lovely Eldridge Hotel. They were a lot of fun and honestly, you'd be hard pressed to meet a sweeter couple. The photos turned out great...have a look!

Rachel and Luke

Here's a lovely little wedding we shot a while back. Rachel and Luke were a sweet couple. Aside from the 30mph winds, the day went beautifully. We got some really great shots at the Danforth.(neat little chapel on KU's campus) There's a hallway in this chapel, that could possibly be my favorite little hallway to make images in. The light is always soft, there are stone walls, dark wood...it's just dramatic. So, if you're getting married at the Danforth and don't already have a photographer, I'm your man.

It has been awhile since my last blog post. I've been busy working, I swear! So, this is Dennis and Seo Hee. They live in New York and wanted me to shoot their pre-wedding reception. It was held at the lovely Eldridge Hotel, right here in downtown Lawrence. We met them for the first time in their room at the hotel and went straight to work. Karen and Colin

Time to get this blog up to date, sort of. Here's the delightfully cute couple, Karen and Colin. We shot their wedding back in October when the leaves were colorful, the sky was blue, and the temperature was far from 19 degrees. It was a beauty of a day. We got some super images including a first for us...you see...Karen and Colin both still have and cherish their favorite childhood stuffed animals...they asked if these said animals could join them in a couple of shots..."of course!" we replied. Take a look!

I've been completely swimming in wedding photos for the last month. Who knew that October had become the new June for weddings?! October was the busiest month for us this year and I've been eating, breathing, and sleeping wedding photography for two months straight. Three weddings in Oct. equaled 3,225 images to sort and edit. It's a mountain of photos I tell ya!

Well I'm taking a break from that to make this update. Here's a wedding we shot in Topeka last month. This is Kristen and Kevin. They were great fun. There was much laughter, tons of dancing, all on a perfectly sunny fall day. We really had a blast at this one! Have a looky.

Albums....(hey, this is what you get!)

Okay, so today I thought I'd make a post about the albums that I design for my brides and grooms. I design each and every album from scratch. I don't use yucky, cheesy templates. Each page layout design comes straight from here!(I'm pointing to my noggin') Each album is designed with the bride and groom's personality in mind and that makes each one unique. The albums come in two sizes, 10"x10" and 5"x5"(the 5x5's make nifty parent's albums). They have a "gutterless" page design, which allows me to do photo spreads that stretch across two pages with only a 1 millimeter gap. Another cool bit about the albums...the pages lay flat when it's open, amazing! My favorite cover is the black leather(it's super soft and smells delicious!). So, enough gabbing, take a look at the albums already...

Each album comes comes with a super cool box.(bonus!)

Casey and Chris

Chris is a baseball player with hopes of being drafted into the Big Leagues. He had a life long dream of getting married on a baseball field, so that's exactly what he did. He proposed to his high school sweetheart at his hometown baseball stadium and the rest is history!

This was probably the most unique setting for a wedding that I've had the pleasure to shoot. It was not without it's challenges...it was at high noon(not the best light for photography!)and it was 90+ degrees.(there's really no way to make sweat look romantic!)

They were sweet kids and even though it felt like we were on the surface of the sun, they were patient and willing to find the "best" shots. Here are some that I liked...

Here are some keepers from a wedding right here in Lawrence. Melissa and Chris are good friends that wanted me to do "my thing". We tried really hard to get some unique images for them and I think it paid off. I couldn't have asked for better subjects and we got lucky with the locations. I am particularly fond of the "Bizarre" building shots. We heart Melissa and Chris. It was a good day.

E-Session w/ Maya and Chetan

Here is a lovely couple Maya and Chetan. Met them at the Nelson Atkins Museum to do their engagement session hoping for some sunny weather. No sun was to be found that day. It was complete overcast skies, but sometimes that works to our advantage. Those overcast skies act as a giant light diffuser and really soften things up. The Nelson grounds are beautiful and the photographic possibilities are endless there. We drug them all over the place and got some really great stuff. I really love the simplicity and modern lines of the new Bloch Buildings.

Their wedding is coming up this weekend and it'll be a first for us to shoot a Hindu ceremony. Exciting stuff!

Lauren and Preston were the kind of bride and groom a photographer like me dreams about. Beautiful, fun, in love, and into my photographic style. They were perfectly patient with all of my, "hey let's try this!" It was a beautiful sunny day and to make things better, the location was right up my alley...

Who knew that the Kansas History Museum in Topeka would be a totally rad, modern, minimalist, concrete structure? I didn't expect it, but as soon as I saw it I said, "aww yeah!". It was a good day and we got some great shots.

Hello wedding photo blog world. Here I am! I'm finally stepping into the future. To be honest, I've been blogging about my personal work for quite some time (see it here... Evolvere), but my wedding photo blog has been LONG over due. Well, it's getting started today dagnabbit! There's a lot that I've needed to get on here and a load of stuff coming up that's going to be on here. So, hang on tight, check back often, and please, if you or someone you know is getting married and you or they don't already have a stellar photography team....call us...we're friendly...really.
